Review:
64.0 is a Music-Rhythm game with a simple presentation and a simple premise – you are a square in the middle of the screen, capable of “shooting” in four directions. Squares start coming at you from all sides in time with the beat, and you must shoot only those squares that are the same color as the background.
The visuals here are about as basic as they can be. A flat colored background in one of a small number of colors, and black-bordered boxes. That’s about it.
The gameplay here is also about as basic as it can be, with players only having to press in one of four directions. However, this game has an early and nasty spike in difficulty that will keep most players from enjoying it. And the game is extremely unforgiving of mistakes – missing just one “bad guy” or shooting just one “good guy” will force you to restart. Within minutes of starting, the game becomes nearly unplayable for anyone who doesn’t have lightning-fast reflexes.
However, this game has one saving grace – it features a surprisingly excellent chiptune soundtrack. As much as playing this game felt like self-torture, I still felt compelled to keep trying just to hear more.
When all’s said and done, my recommendation to you is not to get 64.0 unless you are a masochist or someone looking for a challenge. Check out the soundtrack on YouTube instead – that part is much easier to enjoy when it’s not stopping every few seconds because you died.
tl;dr – 64.0 is a Music-Rhythm game that has you pressing in one of four directions to shoot at boxes moving towards you, trying to shoot only boxes that match the background. The game’s soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal, but most won’t be able to enjoy it due to the extremely difficult and unforgiving gameplay that spikes hard in difficulty early. Unless you want a challenge, just stick with the soundtrack on YouTube.
