Alien Cruise
Genre: Shmup
Players: 1-2 Co-Op (Local), Online Leaderboards
.
Review:
Alien Cruise is a Shmup with a hand-drawn cartoony aesthetic that makes it look like the game was drawn by a child fantasizing about his vegetables off shooting up the galaxy. Yeah, this is one of those weird ones…
The game’s visuals look interesting, but not impressive in any way. It’s a style that you’ll either instantly love or hate.
As for the gameplay… this is pretty bog-standard stuff, actually. There’s nothing exceptionally fantastic or terrible about this game. It’s… fine.
Well, okay, there is one issue of note. The game’s leaderboards only appear to display local statistics, and given that this is a small indie game, for me that meant that the leaderboards I had were completely empty. One wonders why this game doesn’t use global leaderboards. Also strange is that when starting up the game, I was prompted to start up a second controller, even though the game is completely playable in single-player mode without using the second controller.
And… yeah, that’s pretty much all I have to say about Alien Cruise. Sorry, but this is just a decent but unspectacular entry in the genre. Not bad, but largely forgettable outside of its silly art style. Shmup fans could do far worse, but they could also do a lot better.
tl;dr – Alien Cruise is a Shmup with a cartoony art style that looks like it’s been drawn by a child. This is a decent but unspectacular and forgettable Shmup that doesn’t really stand out.
