Review:

Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 Digital Bundle is a digital-only Compilation of the Spectacle Fighter games Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, both previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2018. When these games release, they made use of a somewhat unusual discount offer – players who purchased one of the two games got a discount on the other one, bringing the total of the two to $60. This mirrored the physical release of Bayonetta 2, which included a free digital code for the first game. I suppose that one could see this bundle as a way of simplifying the purchase for players who want to get digital copies of both games at once.

I have previously reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersGrade

tl;drBayonetta is a Spectacle Fighter like Devil May Cry, and it is arguably one of the best games in its genre, with amazing fighting mechanics, a lot of variety, and overall extremely fun gameplay, so long as you’re not bothered by the extremely sexualized main character. There are a few minor graphical issues with this version, but overall it’s much-improved over the Wii U version. All in all, a must-have game for fans of the genre.

tl;drBayonetta 2, like the first game, is a Spectacle Fighter like Devil May Cry, and it is arguably one of the best games in its genre, with amazing fighting mechanics, a lot of variety, and overall extremely fun gameplay, so long as you’re not bothered by the extremely sexualized main character. This is also clearly the definitive version of the game, so if you don’t mind the M rating, you should consider this game a must-have on the Switch.

In short, both Bayonetta games are among the best games ever made in the Spectacle Fighter genre. Visually stunning, with smooth, well-crafted controls, great gameplay and satisfying combat, lots of variety, and an unmistakable sense of style. When I reviewed these games, I gave a higher grade to Bayonetta 2 due to its improved visual presentation, but I still firmly believe that both games are absolute must-haves for anyone who enjoys the genre.

That just leaves the question of value, and really the only value here is that the deal is more straightforward in this purchase than when players buy both games separately. You’re still spending $60 to get both games (saving $20 off the combined purchase price), but without having to go through the confusion of the odd discount situation when buying one game and then the other. Players who want the freedom to try one game before the other are better off buying the game that interests them more, but otherwise… this works too.

I wish Nintendo had made a little more effort to make the Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 Digital Bundle more of an actual bargain for players looking to pick up both games, but despite the question of value here being more or less a wash, this is still an excellent package of two of the greatest Spectacle Fighters ever made. If you enjoy Action games and have yet to play Bayonetta (and as always, if you don’t mind the games’ sexualized protagonist), this is definitely a bundle worth getting.

tl;dr – Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 Digital Bundle is a Compilation of the first two Bayonetta games, each of the two being one of the best Spectacle Fighter games ever made. You spend about as much on this bundle as you would buying the games separately using the discount, but this is a good way to get them both in one go and not worry about the confusing way that discount is implemented. You’re not saving more by getting the games this way, but it’s a good value on two phenomenal games regardless.
