Review:

BringIt to MOM is a Platformer released on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2020. Players take the role of a circular… something (alien? It’s not really clear) collecting pickups for the titular MOM (again, it’s not clear who or what this is).

Visually, this game looks extremely simple, with your black round character jumping on black platforms, with various colors softly lighting the environment. It’s not a bad looking game, but it does come across as fairly one-note. This is paired with a light, simple, repetitive, and slightly irritating soundtrack that doesn’t really seem to fit the tone of the rest of the game.

The gameplay here is focused on your ability to tether to platforms above you and use this ability to swing around the environment. Unfortunately, this ability doesn’t work as well as you might hope, in part because it is so difficult to build up the momentum often needed to maneuver the way you want, and then difficult to change that momentum quickly. This means you’ll start slow, take forever to build speed, and then will take forever to slow down or change direction the way you may want.

There’s more – the tether seems to be picky about when it will actually attach, and can usually only be counted on if a platform is directly above you, which doesn’t help if you’re looking to maintain and build momentum in a series of swings. On top of that, platforms are frustratingly inconsistent as to when they’ll bounce you off and when they’ll allow you to jump off of them to climb.

The result is a Platformer that’s frustratingly difficult to move around in, with unpredictable and unreliable physics, and that you’ll feel like you’re fighting every step of the way. In short, BringIt to MOM simply is not fun, and I cannot recommend it.

tl;dr – BringIt to MOM is a Platformer that has you swinging through levels as a black circle. Unfortunately, the controls are frustratingly difficult to work with and infuriatingly inconsistent. This game just isn’t fun to play.
