Review:

Bucket Knight is an Action-Platformer with an old-school presentation that had you playing as a guy with a gun and, apparently, a wooden bucket for a head. Why? Well why not? This game was originally released in 2019 on PC, and ported to multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch in 2020.

In terms of presentation, this game uses a pixel art visual style that imitates old-fashioned NES games, with a chiptune soundtrack to go with it. Both of these pretty much hit what they’re aiming for, but not in any especially noteworthy or memorable way. Decent, but fairly generic.

“Decent, but fairly generic” also describes the gameplay. The main character has a double jump and a gun that fires horizontally, and can upgrade to a few other weapons through the course of the game, but that’s about it, and there’s little that’s interesting going on in the level design or enemy design either. It’s fine, but I’m already feeling like I’m running out of stuff to talk about here. Oh, the game is only an hour or so long, so there’s that.

Yeah, that’s about all I have to say about Bucket Knight. It’s not a horrible game by any stretch, but it’s unambitious, forgettable, and short enough that you’ll be moving on to something else and forgetting this game almost as soon as you’ve bought it.

tl;dr – Bucket Knight is an Action-Platformer with a decent old-school presentation, but it’s unambitious, forgettable, and short. There’s not much reason to even bother with it.
