Review:
Bug Academy is a family-friendly physics-based Puzzle game that has you controlling a small swarm of flying insects as they are tasked with completing various goals, such as building towers, collecting gemstones, and chucking cows for distance.
This game’s presentation is yet another example of how a good cohesive style can stretch out an otherwise unimpressive visual presentation. On a technical level, the graphics in this game do nothing special, but the derpy look of this game’s animals, its playful overall aesthetic, and the way that the soundtrack is partly comprised of music made by buzzing noises really lends this game a lot of personality.
The basic gameplay here is kinda’ clumsy in a way that actually works in the game’s favor. As a growing cloud of flying insects, your movement is disorganized and affected both by gravity and momentum, making precision flight difficult. What’s more, your various individual bugs all have a mind of their own, meaning that you’ll need to pay attention to them to try and make sure that the objects you’re carrying and placing don’t get unsettled or unbalanced by a bug that got trapped underneath it, only to pull it up when you direct your swarm to move on.
It makes for an interesting challenge, and this game does a great job of providing variety, whether it’s tasking the player with making a series of precision deliveries, building a structure, navigating a maze, or completing some other goal, there’s plenty of things to do, and players looking for a challenge can try to beat their old scores or times.
In terms of complaints, I suppose the lack of precision in the controls can get a bit annoying at times, and this game isn’t especially deep. This is a game you’re likely to enjoy for a little while, but not one you’re likely to be playing for hours on end.
However, if you’re looking for something fun to toy around with for a little while, Bug Academy is delightful. There’s plenty of variety here, and the presentation really helps to make this a fun experience. If you’re looking for something original to distract you for a while, Big Academy is definitely worth a look.
tl;dr – Bug Academy is a family-friendly physics-based puzzle game where players command a swarm of bugs to complete various tasks. There’s a lot of variety here, and the silly presentation is wonderful. It’s not an especially deep game, and the lack of precision in the controls can be a bit frustrating at times, but overall this is a wonderful game well worth playing.
