Colorful Colore is a family-friendly Puzzle game where players move a sliding block around a mazelike level to reach an exit, touching only walls that match the color of the block. This game was released on PC in 2020 and ported to Nintendo Switch a few months later in 2021.
The presentation here is far from impressive, using simple pixel art visuals with a limited color palette. Visually this works for the most part, but it’s somewhat bland. Also, I say “for the most part” because some of the blocks the game includes, such as teleportation squares, don’t exactly make it clear which squares they match up with, which actually makes the gameplay a bit more difficult thanks to how levels are sometimes harder to visually parse. These visuals are accompanied by a chiptune soundtrack I found to be repetitive and a bit annoying.
While the visuals here are lacking, the gameplay is fine, albeit not novel or especially original. You slide blocks around, probably die a few times because you didn’t realize where a teleporter would take you and slammed into a wall of the wrong color, then go about things differently and move on. It’s fine, just nothing special.
There are no touchscreen controls here, though the standard gamepad controls work just fine. The game is also pretty short, with only 50 levels, but at $3 that’s not all that bad.
Overall, Colorful Colore is a decent but pretty forgettable Puzzle game. The presentation is bland but sufficient, the gameplay is good but unoriginal, and the content is fairly slim but so is the price tag. If you’re looking for a decent little distraction for just a few bucks, you could do far worse, but don’t expect this to be much more than that.
tl;dr – Colorful Colore is a family-friendly Puzzle game that has you sliding a block around a maze toward an exit, only touching walls of the same color. It’s a decent but unoriginal and forgettable Puzzle game, a short $3 distraction that’s probably worth the price, but not much more than that.
