Review:

Colsword is a family-friendly Puzzle game released on Nintendo Switch in 2021 This game has players tapping on colored swords to have them create colorful paths and try to recreate a pattern.

The visuals here are a mix of different styles that don’t seem to match very well. There’s pixel art menus, a colorful starfield background, and the swords themselves are rendered in a somewhat intricate hand-drawn style that unfortunately makes it difficult to see what color they are or determine which direction they are facing. This doesn’t terribly affect the gameplay though, since it’s usually fairly obvious which tiles the swords are meant to color, and players are not penalized for making wrong guesses.

Really, the gameplay here boils down to just determining the proper order to select all of the swords. Players are free to do so through logic or trial and error without repercussion – the game doesn’t count your moves or time you. Gameplay is a bit stiff with a traditional controller, but sufficient, and it also supports the use of the touchscreen.

There isn’t really much else to say about Colsword. It is a perfectly acceptable inexpensive Puzzle game, but doesn’t really do much to make it noteworthy in a crowd of Puzzle games on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re a fan of the genre looking for another game to add to your collection, this is decent, but don’t expect anything special.

tl;dr – Colsword is a family-friendly Puzzle game that has players trying to recreate a pattern by using color-coded swords to draw lines on a tile grid. It’s a decent Puzzle game, but not a noteworthy one.
