Review:

Steal It is a challenging Platformer released on Nintendo Switch in 2023. In this game, players control a nameless red-haired character as he enters single-screen levels set in mines, caves, and jungles, snatches a jewel from a treasure chest, and heads back to the exit while avoiding the spikes and traps that have now propagated throughout the level.

The presentation here is very simple, using repetitive, uninteresting 2D pixel art visuals backed by an extremely repetitive soundtrack. While some may find the game’s themes have a sort of old-school Indiana Jones-esque vibe to them, I think most will find them to be pretty disposable and uninteresting.

Sadly, the gameplay doesn’t fare much better. I’m not sure why this game even bothers to have you work your way to the treasure in every level, as most levels make this part an absolute cakewalk devoid of any sort of challenge. The real challenge is trying to make it back when the level suddenly fills with spikes and traps. At its best, this is just pretty boring, mediocre platforming. At its worst, the game’s faulty physics cause problems, such as making your character jump only half as high as they should and forcing you to restart a run.

There are plenty of challenging Platformers on the Nintendo Switch, including some at or below this game’s $4 price tag. As such, I can see no reason that anyone should bother with Steal It – this game is bland, unoriginal, and poorly-designed in multiple ways. Skip it.

tl;dr – Steal It is a challenging Platformer that has you heading into each of the game’s single-screen levels to steal a treasure, then trying to make it back to the starting point. The gameplay here is uninventive and at times outright broken, and the presentation is bland and boring. Don’t waste your time with this game.
