Review:

Dying Light: Definitive Edition & Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of the named titles, which were previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2021 and 2019 respectively. These are both First-Person games, but both were originally released in different eras, both feature a very different tone and setting, and both play quite differently as well. The main thing these games have in common is they share a developer and publisher, the game company Techland.

I have previously reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersScore
Dying Light: Definitive EditionFirst-Person Open-World Action-RPG1-5 Co-Op / Team Competitive (Local Wireless / Online)B+
tl;drDying Light is First-Person Open-World Action-RPG that has players trying to climb and scavenge their way around a post-apocalyptic metropolis filled with zombies. This is a visual downgrade from other versions of the game, but still looks quite nice on Nintendo Switch, and while the scavenging elements aren’t quite what they’re cracked up to be, traversal is excellent and truly enjoyable. If you’re looking for a great open-world Zombie game on Nintendo Switch, this one is definitely worth a look.
Call of Juarez: GunslingerFirst-Person Shooter1B
tl;drCall of Juarez: Gunslinger is more or less a straight port of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 wild West First-Person Shooter with added HD rumble and gyro aiming and nothing else changed or added. It’s a solid entry in the genre with a lot of personality, but it doesn’t do anything to push the genre forward in any way.

In short, I really liked both of these games, and while I think Dying Light is the star in this package, a more modern game and the far more ambitious out of the pair, I think both games have something distinctly different and worthwhile to offer. Fans of violent First-Person games in general will find a lot of quality in this pairing.

That of course leads to the question of whether there’s a lot of value here too. The answer to that involves a bit of nuance, but is mostly a “yes”. Separately these two games cost $70, making the $60 price of this bundle a decent savings for those looking to buy both. However, I cannot ignore that Dying Light has repeatedly dropped down to $10 in sales, and Call of Juarez has been reduced to $2 once, though its usual sale price is $8. However, if we’re comparing apples to apples, this bundle started out on sale at under $11, so whether you’re getting it on sale or at the normal price, you’re getting a good deal here… though given how drastic a price cut the sale price is, I do highly recommend you look for it on sale.

In the end, while the amount you’ll save in this bundle will fluctuate depending on when you get it, no matter which way you cut it this is a great deal on two excellent games. If you’re looking to fill out your Nintendo Switch’s collection and more specifically want to add to your M-Rated First-Person games on the platform, this bundle is a great choice.

tl;dr – Dying Light: Definitive Edition & Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a bundle containing the two named games, both solid First-Person games, though both play very differently. This is overall a very good pair of games, and this bundle will save you money getting both. If you’re looking to add some good M-Rated games to your collection, this is a fine choice.

Grade: B+
