Review:

Super Jagger Bomb is a family-friendly Arcade-style Platformer released in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. This game (which doesn’t appear to have anything to do with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones) aims to be a spiritual successor to the Bomb Jack series of classic games… though I use the term “classic” pretty loosely here.

As I’ve made clear elsewhere, I don’t think too highly of the Bomb Jack games, particularly their floaty platforming mechanics, the inexplicable choice to have players collecting bombs in each level for some reason, and the way the game punishes players for being too good at it. Super Jagger Bomb copies the first two of these three qualities. This game doesn’t make any significant changes or adjustments to the gameplay of the original games, either, meaning this is a pretty sub-par Platformer.

Making things worse is this game’s terrible presentation, with 3D visuals that not only make for occasional moments where platforms in the foreground blend in with the background, and not only cycles between the same four settings, but also makes use of what appear to be purchased assets, many of which simply do not mesh together (one of the enemies is literally a soccer ball for some reason).. This is all backed by a chiptune soundtrack that also doesn’t mesh with the visuals, and which cycles through the same 3-4 songs until you’re annoyed with all of them.

So to sum it up, Super Jagger Bomb chooses as its inspiration a sub-par Platformer, then proceeds to create a sub-par take on that game’s formula. Anyone truly wanting to play a Bomb Jack game can always try out Mighty Bomb Jack on the Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Entertainment System app. Otherwise, I think this is a trip through memory lane best left forgotten.

tl;dr – Super Jagger Bomb is a family-friendly Arcade-style Platformer directly inspired by the Bomb Jack series, and as such it features many of that series’ problems, such as poor Platforming. Add to that an ugly, repetitive, cheap-looking presentation and you have a game that’s simply not worth playing.
