Review:
With both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon getting modern remakes of their original trilogies of family-friendly PlayStation games released in 2018 and 2019, respectively, there seemed to be a strong possibility that the publisher of both games would include the pair together in a bundle, or possibly multiple bundles, as Crash Bandicoot had multiple modern games released. And technically, they did include both games in bundles together… but only on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. It wasn’t until nearly a half a decade later in 2023 that a bundle combining these two acclaimed series would release on Nintendo Switch.
I have separately reviewed both of these games, which are themselves each bundles of three remakes. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy | Compilation / 3D Platformer | 1 | B+ |
tl;drCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a collection of the original three PlayStation Crash Bandicoot games, family-friendly 3D Platformers that have been given a glorious makeover here. The gameplay is still excellent as well, though it has aged a bit in places – the restricted level design and unforgiving gameplay can be a cause for frustration. However, overall this is a superb collection well worth having. | |||
| Spyro Reignited Trilogy | Compilation / 3D Platformer | 1 | A- |
tl;drSpyro Reignited Trilogy is a collection of the original three PlayStation Spyro games, family-friendly 3D Platformers that have withstood the test of time and are presented here with absolutely gorgeous graphics. While there are a few elements that haven’t aged well, like the camera, on the whole this is an absolute joy that fans of platformers should consider a must-have. | |||
In short, I thought each of these was an excellent and at times outright amazing collection of remakes of some superb 3D Platformers, and while I think Spyro has the better of the two collections here, you honestly can’t go wrong with either of these. What’s more, the mix of the two different characters, with their two different types of 3D Platformer gameplay, seem to me like they would make for excellent companions to each other in a bundle.
However, before moving on, I should mention that while Spyro Reignited Trilogy has not yet appeared in any other bundles on Nintendo Switch, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has been in many – it was included in the Crash Bandicoot – Quadrilogy Bundle along with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and it was included in the Crash Bandicoot – Crashiversary Bundle along with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. So Crash fans have multiple options when it comes to bundles.
So with all of this being the case, is this bundle a good value? Well, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy both sell separately for $40 each, and this bundle sells for $75, meaning that buying these games together will only save you $5. If we look at sales, the individual trilogies have sold for $16 each, while this bundle recently went on sale for $26.25, which means that even on sale, this bundle is still saving you about $5 (a bit more, actually), and that’s not bad. Really, the only better deal in all of this mess of offers is the Crashiversary Bundle, which costs a whopping $100 but includes three games, and has dropped down to a sale price of $40… but of course, that bundle won’t get you Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which I would argue is the best game of the bunch (or best bundle of games… look, when you’re talking about bundles of bundles, language gets weird).
Okay, so let’s cut to the chase: Spyro + Crash Remastered Game Bundle is a bundle containing six excellent remakes of six solid 3D Platformers, and if you get it at its normal price you’re shaving a bit off the price you’d be paying separately, with the savings more pronounced if you get this bundle on sale. Either way, fans of 3D Platformers should absolutely want to get this bundle, unless they’ve already purchased one of the two games it contains, or want to get one of the other Crash Bandicoot bundles instead.
tl;dr – Spyro + Crash Remastered Game Bundle is a Compilation containing Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy, with both of those games being full remakes and compilations of three classic family-friendly PlayStation 3D Platformers. All of the games included here are great, and buying them together shaves a bit off of the price you’d pay separately (even more if you catch a good sale). Platformer fans should absolutely consider getting this bundle, unless they already own one of these games.
