Review:

Quake + Quake II Enhanced Bundle, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of the two named games, both remasters of PC games, with these newer versions released in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

I have separately reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:

tl;drQuake’s release on the Nintendo Switch is a phenomenal port that takes the classic First-Person Shooter, gives the visuals an improved framerate and resolution, includes a wealth of features, options, and content, and even some superb gyroscopic motion controls. This is still a port of a very old game, which shows both in its graphics and its gameplay, meaning this will absolutely not be a game for everyone. However, if you’re looking for classic, fast-paced old-school action, this is possibly the best port we could have possibly hoped for of this game.

tl;drQuake II on the Nintendo Switch takes the classic First-Person Shooter and improves on it in countless ways, fills the game to the brim with content, and then offers it to players for a mere $10. The fast-paced and frenetic old-school style of First-Person Shooter may not appeal to everyone, but anyone who does enjoy that style of game should consider this to be an absolute must-buy.

In short, these are two incredible ports of classic First-Person Shooters that set a high bar for what to expect from a port. The wealth of content including restored content, the multitude of options, the new features, the subtly improved visuals that are still faithful to the original games – short of a full remake, this is just about everything one could hope for in a port of a classic. The actual games, on the other hand, are not going to be to everyone’s liking – they’re extremely frenetic, more focused on fast reactions than the thoughtful play that most of today’s First-Person Shooters aim for. However, players looking for an old-school, skill-based challenge who aren’t put off by the dated visuals should get a real kick out of this.

When it comes to the question of value, Quake + Quake II Enhanced Bundle isn’t too shabby either, cutting the combined $20 price that the games’ cost individually to $15. Now, I should mention that these two games do regularly go on sale for $4 each (or lower!), and as of this writing this bundle has not yet gone on sale, so before you buy you may want to check pricing to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

However, sale prices aside, Quake + Quake II Enhanced Bundle is an absolutely fantastic pair of ports of two classic (but a bit dated) games, in a bundle that mostly represents a good value. If you’re a fan of classic First-Person Shooters looking for a few excellent old-school additions to your collection, this bundle is a solid choice.

tl;dr – Quake + Quake II Enhanced Bundle is a compilation of the two named games, both remastered ports of classic PC First-Person Shooters. The quality of these ports is among the best we’ve seen of any port to Nintendo Switch, though the games themselves are a bit dated in a way that may not appeal to all First-Person Shooter fans. Still, this bundle is a good value, especially when you consider just how much love and care was put into bringing these games to Nintendo Switch. If you enjoy old-school shooters, this package is a no-brainer.
