Review:
Speedster’s Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of three 2022 Driving Simulation games with Racing game elements – Car Driver Ultimate, Sports Car Driver, and Super Car Driver.
I have separately reviewed all of these games. Here is what I thought of all of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car Driver Ultimate | Driving / Racing Game | 1 | C- |
tl;drCar Driver Ultimate is a game that mixes elements of Driving Simulation and Racing games, with a focus mainly on the Driving Simulation side of things. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, the game is highly repetitive, and it is far too lacking in options and contents for its price. This is a better game than both other games in the series, Sports Car Driver and Super Car Driver, but that’s nor saying much. | |||

In short, all three of these games are replicating the same core experience on different maps. There are some minor differences here – Super Car Driver doesn’t have any moving traffic, and Sports Car Driver doesn’t force players to manually change into a different gear to go in reverse, but otherwise all three of these games have the same core gameplay, with the same goals, and all of the same flaws. In fact, this really should have just been combined into one game.
Of the three games, Car Driver Ultimate is clearly the best, due to its map both being visually interesting (unlike the map in Super Car Driver), but also having a good mix of tricky areas to drive and areas to cut loose and go at high speeds. However, “best” is kinda’ relative when it comes to this trio, as none of these games is actually good. The controls here are universally terrible, with cars that suck at turning and can’t brake well at all, and gameplay that’s far too repetitive. And also, any racing game without multiplayer is already hobbled right out of the gate.
Still, there’s the question of value remaining, and that’s kinda’ a tricky question to answer, because all three of these games were absurdly overpriced, at $13-$14 each when their anemic content means they really should have been selling for at most one-third that price. Of course, the reason they did this was to make it look like a better deal when these games were discounted to $2 so… how much do the individual games cost? Is this a $41 value, or is it a $6 value masquerading as something worth more?
Regardless of which way you count, Speedster’s Collection is indeed a decent deal if you are resolved to buy these three games – its regular price of $24 is far better than the cost of getting the games separately (though still way more than these games are worth), and its initial sale price under $5 actually makes it a better deal than the trio of games will ever likely sell for on their own.
Is this bundle actually worth it at that price, though? Ehh, that’s really going to depend on how much patience you have for this trio of games’ flaws. I could possibly see someone getting $5 of enjoyment out of these games, sure. However, even looking past these flaws, these are pretty niche games. that won’t appeal to everyone. If you’re looking for pure Racing game experiences, you’re looking in the wrong place. But if a trio of lackluster Driving Simulation games appeals to you, I guess you might enjoy this… just be sure to make sure you’re getting it on sale.
tl;dr – Speedster’s Collection is a Compilation of three Driving Simulation games with Racing game elements – Car Driver Ultimate, Sports Car Driver, and Super Car Driver. All three games are basically the same thing on a different map with only minor changes between them, and all three have control issues and are far too repetitive. At the very least, this bundle is a decent value, but only if you get it on sale. Just to be clear, this is a niche trio of games, and highly-flawed as well. There’s some enjoyment to be had here, but players looking for an inexpensive Racing game have much better options on Nintendo Switch.
