Review:
Stellar Interface + Sudoku Zenkai, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of the two named games, released separately on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and 2022.
I have separately reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stellar Interface | Shmup / Roguelike | 1 | B |
tl;drStellar Interface is a Shmup with Roguelike elements, and while the Shmup side of things can get a bit samey and the random elements hinder the level design, the Roguelike elements really help to keep things interesting and make for a lot of potential fun. As a result, this is far from a perfect entry in the Shmup genre, but it’s fun and unique enough to be worth a look. | |||
| Sudoku Zenkai | Sudoku Puzzle | 1-2 Co-Op (Local / Online) | B- |
tl;drSudoku Zenkai is a Sudoku Puzzle game with a potentially limitless number of procedurally-generated puzzles. It’s not without a few small issues here and there, but overall this is a pretty solid entry in the genre, well worth getting for Nintendo Switch players who want a Sudoku game on the platform. | |||
In short, these are both pretty solid games, in very different genres. Stellar Interface has some flaws in its balancing, level design, and overall repetitiveness that hold it back from being a true classic of the genre, but its Roguelike elements still make it worth playing for Shmup fans, and Sudoku Zenkai is missing a few options and the multiplayer isn’t especially great, but overall it’s a decent game of Sudoku on Nintendo Switch.
The problem with this package is one of value, which is to say that there isn’t any. This bundle sells for $18, the technically a penny more than the price of getting these two games separately. Even worse, both games regularly drop down to only $2 on sale, while this bundle’s sale price hasn’t even dipped as low as $14.
In the end, while Stellar Interface + Sudoku Zenkai may be a bundle containing two very different games, they’re both solid games well worth getting… but even so, don’t buy this bundle. Get the two games separately. At the very least you’ll be saving yourself a penny, but odds are good that you’ll be saving a lot more. This bundle is a rip-off.
tl;dr – Stellar Interface + Sudoku Zenkai is a Compilation containing the two named games, and while both games are very different, they’re both pretty good. However, this bundle is a total rip-off – you won’t save a penny getting this package instead of buying the games separately, and in fact you’ll save a lot more money buying the two games on sale. Do that instead.
