Review:
Treadnauts is a multiplayer-focused arena-based Arcade-style Action-Platformer released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game has players controlling wall-crawling tanks who can not only use their blasts to take out opponents, but also to propel themselves through the air mid-jump.
This game’s physics are probably the game’s biggest selling point but also its largest stumbling block, since they make movement in this game a lot of fun, but also fairly challenging to master. Less skilled players may find themselves frustrated by how difficult it is to jump and get around the game’s levels in a fast and deliberate manner.
This game also offers a wealth of options and various unlockable settings, with full bot support to fill out the game’s 4 player slots if you don’t have that many friends playing alongside you. However, at the same time, I have to point out that this game lacks online multiplayer, and its single-player gameplay is limited to playing with bots and trying to improve your times breaking stationary targets on the game’s levels.
The presentation here is simple and fun, with a mix of colorful 2D visuals and 3D tanks designed to look like the 2D art style, with all of this backed by a somewhat subdued jazzy soundtrack. It all works well for the game, keeping the presentation simple but still somewhat classy.
Ultimately, I think Treadnauts is a pretty good Arcade-style multiplayer-focused Action-Platformer that offers a lot of fun for those who want to throw down in a group and don’t mind trying to get a feel for the game’s challenging physics. I do feel like that challenge limits this game’s accessibility, and the lack of any significant single-player content or online play is another knock against this game, but overall I still think this is a fun addition to your party game setup.
tl;dr – Treadnauts is a multiplayer-focused arena-based Arcade-style Action-Platformer with players using wall-crawling tanks to try to take each other out. This game uses some fun but challenging physics to assist in your movement, and these make this a game that will be somewhat challenging for less-skilled players to master. It’s also lacking online play and any sort of significant single-player mode. However, if you’re looking to add a game to your Party Game rotation, this is a solid choice.
