Review:
Line Color World is a simple family-friendly mobile-style 1-Button Arcade game released to Nintendo Switch in 2024. In this game, players hold down the button to move a box through a path filled with obstacles, trying to avoid those obstacles to reach a finish line.
The presentation here is okay, but nothing special, using simple cel-shaded 3D visuals with a stylized overlay that makes everything look like it was sketched out on construction paper using crayons. This is all backed by an extremely repetitive energetic soundtrack. It all works, but there’s nothing special or impressive going on here.
For the gameplay itself, you really are just pressing down the A button to go, and releasing it to stop, trying to avoid obstacles. There’s… not really anything more to it than that.
I do have a few complaints beyond just how shallow and straightforward the gameplay is, though. The button to restart being B instead of A adds a brief moment every time you lose where you move your thumb over to restart that seems unnecessary. Also, the fixed camera angle occasionally results in players being unable to see the upcoming obstacles until it’s too late, which is some pretty poor design.
However, for the most part, Line Color World is… fine. It’s not great, it’s not terrible, it’s just… fine. Players wanting a simple time-waster on Nintendo Switch may find this to be suitable, though I doubt anyone will find this game to be especially fun or memorable.
tl;dr – Line Color World is a simple family-friendly mobile-style one-button Arcade game where players hold down one button to move a box through an obstacle course, trying to time your press to avoid the obstacles. There’s nothing surprising or exciting here, and while there are a few minor issues with things like the game’s camera, for the most part there isn’t anything extremely bad here either. In the end, this is just a mediocre time-waster. Take from that what you will.
