Nintendo just released another game on their Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack’s Game Boy Advance app. Let’s have a look!
Game Boy Advance App
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| F-Zero: Maximum Velocity | Futuristic Racing | 1-4 Competitive (Local Wireless / Online) | B |
tl;drThis F-Zero game lacks many of the standard elements of the franchise, like Captain Falcon and his trademark racing craft. Its high-inertia gameplay also gives it a really steep learning curve. But those who are up for a challenge will find this to be a solid Racing game nonetheless. | |||
I reviewed this game last year on the Wii U Virtual Console, and apart from this release allowing players to participate in the game’s competitive multiplayer, not much has changed. However, this one change is noteworthy, I feel.
While Maximum Velocity lacks the visual fidelity of its Super Nintendo predecessor, the inclusion of multiplayer makes this the slightly-better game, in my opinion. It still won’t be a game for everyone – the physics are unforgiving, and will take some getting used to, but those with the patience to get a feel for the gameplay will find this to be a great fast-paced faux 3D Racing Game.
tl;dr – The Game Boy Advance app gets F-Zero: Maximum Velocity this month, and it’s a great old-school faux 3D Racing game, although the game’s physics, difficulty level, and limited visuals make it a game that won’t appeal to everyone.
