Review:
Traffic Master Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of three 2021 Driving Simulation games with Racing game elements – Multilevel Parking Driver, Driving World: Italian Job, and City Traffic Driver.
I have separately reviewed all three of these games. Here is what I thought of all of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multilevel Parking Driver | Driving / Racing Game | 1 | D- |
tl;drMultilevel Parking Driver is a game that mixes elements of Driving Simulation and Racing games, with a focus mainly on the Driving Simulation side of things. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, and it is far too lacking in options and contents for its price. Even worse, this game forces things to be even more repetitive than the already-repetitive formula by forcing players to replay the same levels multiple times for completion. Even among a pretty bad series of games, this is particularly terrible. | |||
| Driving World: Italian Job | Driving / Racing Game | 1 | C- |
tl;drDriving World: Italian Job is a game that mixes elements of Driving Simulation and Racing games, with a focus mainly on the Driving Simulation side of things. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, and it is far too lacking in options and contents for its price. This is one of the better takes on this formula, adding a fair amount of variety in different mission types and vehicles, but it’s still terribly lacking. | |||
| City Traffic Driver | Driving / Racing Game | 1 | D+ |
tl;drCity Traffic Driver is a game that mixes elements of Driving Simulation and Racing games, with a focus mainly on the Driving Simulation side of things. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, and it is far too lacking in options and contents for its price. Don’t buy this game. | |||
In short, all of these games use the same basic game template previously seen in all three games from the Speedster’s Collection, simply reusing that game’s assets and plunking them in a new map (well, I say “previously”, but these three games technically came first). However, while City Traffic Driver is pretty typical for this gameplay formula, Multilevel Parking Driver is far worse thanks to the way it requires players to repeat missions, making a tedious, repetitive game even more so. On the other hand, Driving World: Italian Job fares pretty well, thanks to a genuine attempt to try to shake up the formula and infuse variety into the gameplay. It’s still not a great game by any stretch, but it’s better than most of these games with copy-pasted gameplay and assets.
Still, there’s the question of value remaining, and that’s kinda’ a tricky question to answer, because both of these games were absurdly overpriced, at $13-$14 each when their anemic content means they really should have been selling for at most one-third that price. Of course, the reason they did this was to make it look like a better deal when these games were discounted to $2 so… how much do the individual games cost? Is this a $40 value, or is it a $6 value masquerading as something worth more?
Regardless of which way you count, Traffic Master Collection is indeed a decent deal if you are resolved to buy these three games – its regular price of $24 is a huge improvement over the cost of getting the games separately (though still way more than these games are worth), and its initial sale price under $5 actually makes it a better deal than these three games will ever likely sell for on their own.
Is this bundle actually worth it at that price, though? Ehh, that’s really going to depend on how much patience you have for this trio of games’ flaws. I could possibly see someone getting $5 of enjoyment out of these games, sure. However, even looking past these flaws, these are pretty niche games that won’t appeal to everyone. If you’re looking for pure Racing game experiences, you’re looking in the wrong place. But if a trio of lackluster Driving Simulation games appeals to you, I guess you might enjoy this… just be sure to make sure you’re getting it on sale.
tl;dr – Traffic Master Collection is a Compilation of three Driving Simulation games with Racing game elements – Multilevel Parking Driver, Driving World: Italian Job, and City Traffic Driver. All three games reuse the same core gameplay and share assets, with varying degrees of success, but all three suffer from gameplay and graphical issues. At the very least, this bundle is a decent value, but only if you get it on sale. But it’s a better value for three games that are mediocre at best.
Grade: D+
