Review:

Traffix is an Arcade-style game released on PC in 2019 and Nintendo Switch in 2020. This game has players controlling the flow of traffic at intersections, signaling cars to proceed at times when it is safe and avoiding accidents.

The presentation here is simple but elegant, featuring simple 2D visuals with a striking look of gradient colors against white backgrounds. There are also other subtle elements here, like shadows for the game’s 2D vehicles. As for the sound, this game doesn’t have music during gameplay apart from synthesized elevator music in menu screens, and sound during the gameplay is mostly just electric tones as you turn on and off stoplights.

The gameplay here is fairly simple, and overall feels less about coordination and more about timing – you’re not trying to manage the traffic so much as you are trying to ensure that you let cars in at a time when they can merge into the busy traffic. As a result of this, the gameplay is far more simple and Arcade-y than it is a Management Simulation. It’s fine, but it’s somewhat lacking in depth.

There’s not really much else to say about Traffix. It’s a simple game with a simple, appealing presentation, but there’s not all that much going on under the presentation. If you’re looking for a simple game to direct traffic on your Nintendo Switch, this will get that done and looks good doing it, but I’m doubtful it will keep you entertained for more than short play sessions.

tl;dr – Traffix is an Arcade-style game that has players directing the flow of traffic at busy intersections. The visual style of this game looks fantastic, with a slick, minimalist look. However, the gameplay itself is pretty shallow, and the gameplay is more about timing merging with oncoming traffic than it is about management. If you’re looking to kill time with a stylish game for a few minutes, Traffix may satisfy you, but don’t expect it to keep you hooked for much longer than that.

Grade: C+
