Nintendo just released a pair of games on their Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack’s Nintendo 64 app. Let’s have a look at them!
Here’s what I thought of each:
Nintendo 64 App
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extreme-G | Futuristic Racing | 1-4 Competitive (Local Split-Screen, Online) | C+ |
tl;drWhile not quite on par with F-Zero X, this is still a decent Futuristic Racing game, albeit a difficult one with some frustrating fog and pop-in. | |||
| Iggy’s Reckin Balls | Platformer / Party Game | 1-4 Competitive (Local Split-Screen, Online) | C- |
tl;drThis multiplayer-focused Platformer game has players racing to the finish while grappling platforms and messing with opponents. It’s a fun concept, but poor input latency and hit detection make this far less fun than it should be. | |||
This pair of Acclaim games are a surprise to get on the Nintendo 64 app, but I know Extreme-G at least is a cult favorite of some. I don’t think either of these games is a true classic by any stretch, but it’s nice to get them on the app all the same.
tl;dr – The Nintendo 64 app gets two more games this month, but while Extreme-G is fondly remembered by some, I don’t think that either that game or Iggy’s Reckin Balls are true highlights on the Nintendo 64 platform. Neither is outright bad either, but I doubt this pair of releases will move the needle for many people.
