Review:
4×4 OffRoad Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation of two Simulation-style Off-Road Racing Games – 4×4 Offroad Driver and 4×4 Offroad Driver 2.
I have separately reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4×4 Offroad Driver | Off-Road Racing Game | 1 | C |
tl;dr4×4 Offroad Driver is a Simulation-style Off-Road Racing Game that has players navigating off-road obstacle courses. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, and the game is far too lacking in options and content for its price. This game may be a decent time-waster if you get it on sale, but definitely don’t buy it at full-price. | |||
| 4×4 Offroad Driver 2 | Off-Road Racing Game | 1 | C |
tl;dr4×4 Offroad Driver 2, like this game’s predecessor, is a Simulation-style Off-Road Racing Game that has players navigating off-road obstacle courses. Unfortunately, the cars here do not handle well, and the game is far too lacking in options and content for its price. This game may be a decent time-waster if you get it on sale, but definitely don’t buy it at full-price. | |||
In short, both of these games use the same basic game template previously seen in all three games from the Speedster’s Collection, simply reusing that game’s assets and plunking them in a new map. However, both of these games do a much better job transforming that template into something relatively unique and fun. It’s not a great job – the controls are still terrible, there are clunky design choices, and the graphics are terrible, but compared to other games in the franchise these two are fairly enjoyable.
Still, there’s the question of value remaining, and that’s kinda’ a tricky question to answer, because both of these games were overpriced, at $13 each when their anemic content means they really should have been selling for at most one-third that price. Of course, the reason they did this was to make it look like a better deal when these games were discounted to $2 so… how much do the individual games cost? Is this a $26 value, or is it a $4 value masquerading as something worth more?
Regardless of which way you count, 4×4 OffRoad Collection is indeed a decent deal if you are resolved to buy these three games – its regular price of $18 is a huge improvement over the cost of getting the games separately (though still way more than these games are worth), and its initial sale price under $4 actually makes it a better deal than these three games will ever likely sell for on their own.
Is this bundle actually worth it at that price, though? Ehh, that’s really going to depend on how much patience you have for these games’ flaws. I could possibly see someone getting $4 of enjoyment out of these games, sure. Just be sure to make sure you’re getting it on sale.
tl;dr – 4×4 OffRoad Collection is a Compilation of two Simulation-style Off-Road Racing Games – 4×4 Offroad Driver and 4×4 Offroad Driver 2. Both of these games reuse the same core gameplay and share assets, but both also suffer from gameplay and graphical issues. At the very least, this bundle is a decent value, but only if you get it on sale. No one is going to mistake these games for anything high-quality, but if you get this bundle cheap, you may find it a worthwhile time-waster.
