Review:

Borzoi Adventure is a challenging Platformer released in 2024 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. In this game, players take the role of a dog double-jumping and wall-jumping through levels to collect all the bones and reach an exit.

The presentation here is mostly pretty good, using some colorful 2D pixel art visuals with some decent background animations, backed by a synthesized soundtrack that’s a bit too repetitive, but overall the presentation works well enough.

The problem here is the gameplay. Movement in this game is dreadfully sluggish and just doesn’t feel great, and this is compounded by punishing level design that spikes in difficulty only a few levels in. Even worse, making a single mistake strips you of a life and sends you back to the level’s start, and this game seems to take sadistic glee in placing an extremely difficult jump right at the end of each level.

Even at a bargain-bin $4 price tag, Borzoi Adventure isn’t worth it. There are so many good Platformers out there, even good challenging Platformers, even good cheap challenging Platformers, that there’s just no reason to play one that’s actively trying to make your experience worse. Skip this one.

tl;dr – Borzoi Adventure is a challenging Platformer that has players jumping around levels as a dog collecting bones and then getting to an exit. While the game looks nice, the gameplay is sluggish and the level design is sadistic in a way that’s just not fun. Even for a budget game, you have many better options than this.

Grade: D+
