Review:
Biggerman.io is a family-friendly Arcade-style game released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021. In this game, players control a featureless humanoid character destroying obstacles to uncover little white people and run into them to make your character bigger, with the goal of being big enough to take out other characters in the area. It’s a gameplay concept a bit like Katamari Damacy, or more fittingly like Hole io.
The presentation here uses 2D pixel art visuals in a style designed to look like simple 3D games that feature similar featureless characters. In this, it more or less succeeds, though I have to wonder why this was their goal in the first place, since it’s basically making a lower-quality version of a generic look. In any case, these visuals are backed by an energetic but completely forgettable soundtrack.
When it comes to the gameplay, the idea here is sound, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The way the level ends when you “eat” the opposing player(s) (whether AI- or human-controlled), which means these levels can be over quite quickly. There doesn’t seem to be any sort of strategy or skill involved here, just grab up the little white men as fast as you can so you can overwhelm your enemy. And sadly, even this much isn’t all that fun due to loose controls and poor hit detection.
In the end, if you’re looking for a competitive take on the Katamari Damacy formula on Nintendo Switch, just get Hole io, which does this formula better. Or if you’re more interested in single-player gameplay, just get Katamari Damacy. But Biggerman.io just doesn’t get enough right or offer enough that’s unique to be worth playing when you have better alternatives like these.
tl;dr – Biggerman.io is a family-friendly Arcade-style game where players move a featureless humanoid character around, grabbing up little white men to grow bigger. It’s a formula reminiscent of Katamari Damacy or Hole io, but poor game design makes this inferior to both of those games, and if you want something like this, you should get one of those games instead.
