Review:

Offroad Masters is a Motorbike Racing game released in 2024 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. This game has you racing a motorbike through various outdoor environments, trying to get the best time.

In terms of presentation, Offroad Masters is ugly. Even once you get past the jarringly bad framerates and the horrible pop-in, you have to wonder just who greenlighted this game’s eye-wateringly repulsive environments with clashing colors like some sort of neon fever dream. This is all backed by a repetitive techno-style soundtrack that you’ll tire of soon enough.

However, as bad as the visuals are, they can’t hold a candle to just how terrible the gameplay is.

There’s no fanfare or setup for any of the races – once you choose your map and racer from the menu, the race is loaded up and you’re immediately starting without warning. You’ll need to change the default first-person view immediately, because it’s so jittery it makes shaky-cam footage seem smooth and serene by comparison. So right before you even race, this game is already horrible.

The racing itself manages to be somehow worse. I’d say your racer turns like a boat, but boats are more maneuverable than this. Or at least, that’s when you’re trying to turn. Sometimes, seemingly randomly, the game will spin your bike around in crazy random directions, making driving in a straight line virtually impossible in this game. Needless to say, you will be making heavy use of the button to return yourself to the track, as you’ll repeatedly find yourself flung off course without reason or warning.

From there, I could go on to complaining about the lack of multiplayer, but why would you ever want to subject a friend to this game?

While I do try to be somewhat forgiving of budget games, even the low $4 price tag doesn’t forgive any of… this. Offroad Masters is an impressively bad game, a game that finds new and bizarre ways to be virtually unplayable, repulsive, and irredeemable. That anyone could release this game in this state is jaw-dropping. That the people behind this game could look at these terrible graphics and this absolutely unplayable gameplay and say to themselves “yeah, that’s good enough, ship it” would be galling if it wasn’t so brazen. Needless to say, you shouldn’t buy this.

tl;dr – Offroad Masters is an offroad Motorbike Racing game, albeit one that finds astounding new ways to be absolutely terrible, from the eye-wateringly bad graphics to the ridiculous unplayable gameplay. My jaw literally dropped while playing this at the sheer audacity that anyone would expect players to pay for this. Please, don’t.
