(Note: Gems of Magic: Lost Family, included in this bundle, is also in the Gems of Magic: Double Pack bundle, along with Gems of Magic: Dwarf’s Destiny. And both of the games in this bundle are also included in the Super Puzzle Pack bundle, along with Candy 2048 Challenge, Jigsaw Fun: Piece It Together, and Yum Yum Line.)
Match 3 Adventure Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2021, is a Compilation containing a pair of family-friendly Match-3 Puzzle games.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gems of Magic: Lost Family | Match-3 Puzzle | 1 | C- |
tl;drGems of Magic: Lost Family is a family-friendly Match-3 Puzzle game that’s basically an uninspired knockoff of Bejeweled, lacking in any interesting features or gameplay elements. As such, there’s no reason to play this over countless better takes on this exact same gameplay formula on Nintendo Switch. | |||
| Match Three: Pirates! Heir to Davy Jones | Match-3 Puzzle | 1 | C+ |
tl;drMatch Three: Pirates! Heir to Davy Jones is a family-friendly Match-3 Puzzle game that’s basically a knockoff of Bejeweled. The piratey theme and reasonably varied levels keep things interesting enough here, but not enough to project it above countless better takes on this exact same gameplay formula on Nintendo Switch. | |||
In short, these are both basically Bejeweled clones, and not particularly inspired ones. I give a little more credit to Match Three: Pirates! for having a better theme and more variety, but even so these games are lacking basic stuff like multiplayer, an endless mode, and a puzzle mode.
They’re also both overpriced, selling at $10 each when being a copy of one of the most-copied Puzzle games means they should be closer to their frequent sale price of $2 each. At $15, this bundle is technically a better deal than the individual games, but still far too overpriced. I suppose the regular sale price just over $2 is far more palatable, but I try not to be too forgiving of games just because they pull sale shenanigans with the price.
In the end, if you’re looking for games like Bejeweled, you can do far worse than the pairing included in Match 3 Adventure Collection, but you can also do so much better. If you get this bundle on sale it might be worth it, but otherwise, skip it and play a better take on the formula – I assure you that many exist on Nintendo Switch.
tl;dr – Match 3 Adventure Collection is a Compilation of two family-friendly Match-3 Puzzle games: Gems of Magic: Lost Family and Match Three: Pirates! Heir to Davy Jones. Both are uninspired knockoffs of Bejeweled, and while you may still find these games worthwhile if you get them on sale, you’re better off getting another better Puzzle game instead.
