Review:

Capitals Quizzer is a family-friendly free-to-play Educational Trivia game released on mobile devices in 2012 and ported to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023. This game presents the player with a series of flags from the world’s countries, and the player must respond by either naming the country to which that flag belongs, or naming that county’s capital (depending on the game mode), with players being given four choices to select from.

That’s… pretty much it, really. Players are scored based on the speed of their answer, and with a third wrong guess the game ends. There’s not any added depth or nuance here, it’s just… basically a videogame equivalent of flash cards. The game saves your high score, but doesn’t have any sort of leaderboards, so don’t expect to compete with anyone.

Rather than monetizing this game with some sort of sleazy attempt at nickel-and-diming players, this game aims to make its money by selling expanded game modes, having players guess the currency of a country, guess it from its shape, and so on.

Other than this, the game uses static cartoony background art, has a whimsical but forgettable instrumental soundtrack, and… that’s it.

I suppose, if you’re a parent looking to have your child memorize world countries, their flags, and their capitals, you might as well get this game, since it does that for free, albeit in a bland, bare-bones sort of way. I suppose I should commend this game for giving players exactly what it says in the title without any predatory monetization, but honestly I think most players will likely grow bored with this quickly, and anyone who does want something like this can surely found countless similar quizzes online.

tl;dr – Capitals Quizzer is a family-friendly free-to-play Educational Trivia game that has players guessing what country a flag belongs to, or what that country’s capital is. As a free videogame substitute for flash cards, this gets the job done, but there’s no depth here, no competition. If you’re looking to get an educational “game” for your kids, you might as well download this for free, but don’t expect them to enjoy it for long before they get bored.
