Review:
Freedom Planet 1 + 2 Bundle, released on Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a Compilation containing a the two named games.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freedom Planet | Platformer | 1 | B |
tl;drFreedom Planet is a Platformer that looks, feels, and plays like a Sonic game without the high speeds, while bringing some unique things to the table as well. Fans of platformers and especially fans of Sonic games should definitely give this one a look. | |||
| Freedom Planet 2 | Platformer | 1 | B+ |
tl;drFreedom Planet 2 once again delivers its great take on the core Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay, and this time improves on multiple elements in the gameplay and presentation. The result is an outstanding Platformer that any fan of Sonic-style games should absolutely get their hands on. | |||
In short, both of these games are great Platformers that start with the core formula of a Sonic the Hedgehog games, but build on that in their own way to make something great in their own right. I think Freedom Planet 2 improves on its predecessor in multiple ways, but really you can’t go wrong with either game.
And of course after that, I have to ask the question about value, and here we get to one of those sorta’ iffy situations where the answer really depends if we’re looking at standard prices or sale prices. For standard pricing, this bundle fares okay but not great, shaving the combined $40 price of the two games down to $35. Things are worse when you look at sale prices though, as this bundle’s only sale price at the time I’m writing has been the launch price of $31.50, while the individual games’ sale price has plummeted down to a combined $19.50.
Needless to say, that difference in price is massive, and it makes it difficult for me to recommend Freedom Planet 1 + 2 Bundle to anyone. It’s a shame too, because both Freedom Planet games are amazing Platformers that deserve a great bundle that justifies snatching up both at once, but this bundle doesn’t do that. Instead, it just forces me to tell everyone to wait for a good sale and then buy the two games separately.
tl;dr – Freedom Planet 1 + 2 Bundle is a Compilation containing the two named games, both Sonic the Hedgehog-style Platformers. The games are great, but this bundle’s price doesn’t really justify buying them together like this. Wait for the individual games to go on sale and buy them separately instead – you’ll save a lot more money.
Grade: C+
