Review:

Lyne is a family-friendly Puzzle game released on PC and mobile devices in 2014 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2024. As this game’s name indicates, the puzzles here are focused on drawing lines, specifically lines that pass over all like-colored spots and connect at two designated ends without crossing (save for spots designated for crossing).

Given the simplicity of the concept, it’s little surprise that the presentation here is also simple, using basic 2D geometric shapes with no music but instead electronic tones as you connect spots with your lines. It’s minimalist, but it works.

The gameplay here works too, with players puzzling out puzzles of increasing difficulty as more colors are added, as well as more crossing spots. It never becomes especially difficult, but is a challenge enough that you feel some sense of accomplishment when you complete a puzzle.

I do have one major gripe with the gameplay though – when you’re drawing a line, the rumble is constantly activating in your controller, which gets really annoying quickly. It’s a minor thing, but it’s something I felt the need to mention.

What really doesn’t work, however, is the price. Even if we ignore the $10 price tag being over 3 times more than the price of the PC and mobile releases of the game, it’s simply too high for the simplicity that’s on offer here. This absolutely feels like a budget game, but it is not priced like one.

Because of this, I suggest you take a pass on Lyne, or at least get a version of the game on a different platform. It’s a decent Puzzle game, but not a spectacular one, and it’s just not worth the asking price on Nintendo Switch.

tl;dr – Lyne is a Puzzle Game that has you using lines to connect dots. It’s a simple but decent Puzzle game that works well enough, but the $10 price tag seems like far too much an ask for what’s on offer here, especially when it’s over three times the price it’s listed for on other platforms. Skip it.
