Review:
Racing Champions is a Racing Game released in 2024 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. This game has you racing vehicles in three different types of races – Formula, Rally, and Monster.
Graphically, this game mostly looks okay, using decent but not especially impressive 3D visuals for its vehicles and tracks, though this is undercut somewhat by the shuddering framerates that mar the presentation. These visuals are backed by a repetitive, annoying soundtrack and then blasted over with terrible car sounds.
While this game is off to a bad start with its presentation, it secures its place as a terrible Racing game with its abysmal camera, eternally stuck in an awkward 45 degree angle position behind and to the side of your vehicle. The game does let you change it, but this only presents you with a second, nearly-identical angle behind and to the side of your vehicle.
If it wasn’t for the absolutely atrocious camera, Racing Champions would be a mediocre racer lacking depth and horribly lacking content. However, the choice to stick players with a truly terrible camera angle that’s far more of a challenge than any opponent you’ll face in-game makes this a Racing Game that you’ll absolutely want to pass on. Do not waste money on this.
tl;dr – Racing Champions is a Racing Game with terrible framerates and a horrendously bad camera that’s a bigger opponent than any racer you’ll face off against in-game. I could go on to complain about the shallow gameplay and lack of content, but the camera itself makes this a Racing Game you’ll never want to play.
