Eggy Party, released on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a free-to-play, online-only, multiplayer-focused Arcade-style 3D Platformer. In this game, 32 players compete in elimination rounds with different goals, frequently either a race to a finish line in an obstacle course or a “survive as long as you can without getting knocked off” arena. And far from the capable, athletic characters of most 3D Platformers, this game has players taking the role of “eggies”, rotund bouncy characters with sluggish controls who flop over easily when encountering obstacles.

In other words, this game is clearly a copycat of Fall Guys. But as I often say, there’s nothing wrong with a copycat as long as it’s a good copycat, so of course that leads to the question: is Eggy Party a good copycat?

The gameplay has good variety, at least. There’s creative level design and some fun goals that generally tie into one of the core gameplay types, but the way the game approaches these keeps things fresh. As with Fall Guys though, I don’t care for the way this game has everyone playing inept characters.

At least some elements of the presentation are quite good too – despite being little more than a sphere with arms, legs, and a cartoony face, the 3D characters have some good animations here, and the levels are colorful and inviting to look at, backed by energetic music that fits the game’s tone well.

However, the real issue here is performance. Playing through multiple online matches, it was extraordinarily rare for me to get a game that didn’t suffer from performance issues, and more often than not these issues were severe, and heavily affected gameplay. Massive framerate drops, screen freezing, and high input lag are all far too common here, leaving the game an absolute mess that jumps between being fun and being a torturous mess of a game that’s not worth playing.

Even now, I want to like Eggy Party. If it wasn’t for the performance issues, this would actually be a pretty decent take on the Fall Guys formula. But the performance is so absolutely abysmal that I cannot recommend anyone waste their time on this, even for the price of free.

tl;dr – Eggy Party is a free-to-play, online-only, multiplayer-focused Arcade-style 3D Platformer that is clearly trying to copy the Fall Guys formula. It mostly succeeds too, but these efforts are ruined by absolutely terrible performance that ruins the gameplay. Don’t waste your time on this.
