Review:
Little Racers + Red Wings: American Aces, released on Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a Compilation containing a the two named games (well, minus the extra “s” at the end of Little Racer).
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Little Racer | Top-Down Slot Car Racing | 1-4 Competitive (Local) | D |
tl;drLittle Racer seeks to reproduce the fun of competing on a slot racing track, and it has a good sense of style and a lot of content, including a superb track creator. Unfortunately, none of this matters as the gameplay is absolutely horrible, with crash after unavoidable crash making races less about skill and more about who has the patience not to drop the controller and never play this game again. Don’t bother with this one. | |||
| Red Wings: American Aces | Combat Flight Simulator | 1-2 Co-Op / Competitive (Local Split-Screen), 2-10 Competitive (Online) | C+ |
tl;drRed Wings: American Aces is a Combat Flight Simulator where players take the role of an American fighter pilot during World War I. The core gameplay here is good, but the missions are too repetitive, and the environments lack any sort of variety beyond their appearance. Even worse, while this game reuses gameplay and content from the previous game, the most significant addition it makes is a frustratingly high difficulty level. If you want a Combat Flight Simulator on Nintendo Switch, look elsewhere. | |||
In short, these are two very different games, but between the two I definitely think Red Wings: American Aces is the better game in this package, being a mostly-decent but repetitive and overly-difficult Combat Flight Simulator. Little Racer, on the other hand, is just a terrible Slot Racing game.
When talking about value, this package has a complete night-and-day story depending on whether or not you’re looking at things when they’re on sale. When everything’s at their standard prices, this bundle’s $20 price is only $2 shy of the cost of buying the two games separately. But when you look at the sale price, this game’s standard sale price of $2 is basically like getting one of these games for free when buying the other.
Still, even then, neither of these games is especially great, and one is just plain bad, so saying that under the right circumstances you can get a good deal on buying both of them together… how much is that saying, really? I suppose, if you’re looking to get Red Wings: American Aces on sale for $2, getting this bundle on sale for $2 is a better idea, but only by default.
tl;dr – Little Racers + Red Wings: American Aces is a Compilation containing the two named games. However, of the two, only Red Wings is actually worth playing. If you can get this bundle on sale for $2, it’s like you’re getting Little Racers for free when you buy Red Wings: American Aces, but otherwise you should skip this pairing.
Grade: D+
