Golf Club Nostalgia & The Cub Bundle, released on Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a Compilation containing a the two named games (Golf Club Nostalgia previously went by the name Golf Club Wasteland).

I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersScore
Golf Club WastelandSports (Golf)1C+
tl;drGolf Club Wasteland is a game that has players taking the role of a spacesuit-clad golfer playing through 2D Side-Scrolling courses in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Earth. The game’s social commentary is absolutely fantastic, bolstered by an in-game radio that gives an amusing look at the lives of humanity’s survivors. Unfortunately, the Golf gameplay is lacking by comparison, overly difficult and unforgiving, and too difficult to gauge where your shot will go. If you can tolerate these flaws, the excellent presentation and satire is more than worth giving this game a try, but this is not a game to get if your primary interest is the Golf itself.
The CubPlatformer1C+
tl;drThe Cub is a Platformer set in the same world as Golf Club Wasteland, taking place in the wake of that story and following a feral child surviving on a hostile post-apocalyptic Earth running from returning humans from Mars trying to hunt him down. The Platforming here is decent but has multiple baked-in frustrations, but the satire is excellent, albeit perhaps not quite as good as what we had in Golf Club Wasteland, and the game is relatively short. Still, overall this is a solid game with a powerful message, and worth a look if you enjoy good satire.

Both of these games are set in the same world, but follow different characters, and play very differently. And I think both games are pretty good, though the satire and social commentary about humanity’s selfishness and shortsightedness is definitely better than the gameplay here. For this reason, I think I prefer Golf Club Wasteland between the two – the side-scrolling Golf gameplay here isn’t quite as strong as the Platforming of The Cub, but I think its satire hits harder and leaves a more profound impact. However, I think both games are worth playing, and their similarities and contrasts make them a great pairing.

I should note that a third game set in the same universe, Highwater, is available on Nintendo Switch too, but don’t expect a bundle including that one, as it was released by a different publisher.

At this point we turn to the question of value, and in that area this package fares well enough. Separately, both games sell for a combined total of $25, and this bundle shaves that down to $23. While this isn’t very dramatic, the sale prices are a different story, with the combined lows of the two games coming out to $11, while this bundle has had a sale price of $6, just over half. And even if you were only interested in grabbing Golf Club Wasteland, I would suggest getting both games anyway, as The Cub still fleshes out that game’s story in a way that’s well worth a few bucks more.

Overall, Golf Club Nostalgia & The Cub Bundle is a pretty good bundle of two pretty good games containing some superb satire. If you had an interest in either game, I think this bundle is well worth seeking out. It’s a decent deal, and both games here are worth playing.

tl;dr – Golf Club Nostalgia & The Cub Bundle is a Compilation containing the two named games. Both of these games are worth playing, though mainly for the satire and social commentary rather than the gameplay. And this bundle is a good deal on the pair. Overall, this is a decent package, even if the individual games have their flaws.

Grade: C+
