Review:

Kurikinton, sometimes referred to as Kuri Kinton, is an Action-Platformer released in 1988 in Japanese arcades with the first home port of the game being in the Taito Legends 2 Compilation released in 2007 on PC, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox. This modern release sees the game coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2021.

There’s not much I can say in favor of Kurikinton. I suppose the character designs were nice for the time, but otherwise this is a miserable game with simple, repetitive levels that throw hordes of enemies at you that you need to pummel to get past, where the platforming is bad, hit detection is bad, and combat overall is just a mess.

This release of the game includes a new “Hi-Score Mode” that challenges players to score as much as they can in one run before seeing a game over screen. There is also a new “Caravan Mode” that does much the same, but with the limit being five minutes. In addition, this release of the game includes various display options, sound options, challenge modifiers, button mapping, and online leaderboards.

Overall, Kurikinton is just not a game I think anyone today is likely to have interest in. It’s a tedious, repetitive, poorly-made slog of a game, and while the visuals were decent for its time, that alone just isn’t enough to make this worth buying.

tl;dr – Kurikinton is an Arcade-style Action-Platformer with some nice character designs, but little else that’s worthwhile. This is a poorly-made repetitive slog, and I do not recommend it.
