Review:
Super Hard Bundle, released on Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a Compilation containing Dust & Neon, Super Glitch Dash, Super Impossible Road, and Super Mega Zero, all games released on Nintendo Switch from 2021 through 2023, and sharing little in common other than their publisher, Rogue Games.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dust & Neon | 2-Stick Shooter | 1 | B- |
tl;drDust & Neon is a 2-Stick Shooter set in a post-apocalyptic Western setting that puts you in the role of a cyborg fighting through enemy robots. In many ways, this game plays a bit like “Borderlands as a 2-Stick Shooter”, but it doesn’t quite measure up to that comparison, lacking the style and variety of those games. However, the core gameplay here is good, and the soundtrack is superb. This ends up being a decent 2-Stick Shooter, it’s just one that falls well short of its potential. | |||
| Super Glitch Dash | First-Person Auto-Runner | 1 | B- |
tl;drSuper Glitch Dash is a family-friendly First-Person Auto-Runner where players avoiding obstacles and collecting pickups in a futuristic corridor as it is constructed in front of them. This game doesn’t do too much out of the norm for the genre, and its price seems a bit high, but otherwise this is a decent representation of this style of game, and if you’re looking for a decent Auto-Runner this should suffice. | |||
| Super Impossible Road | Racing Game | 1-4 Competitive (Local Splitscreen), 2-8 Competitive (Online) | B |
tl;drSuper Impossible Road is a Racing Game that has players racing futuristic-looking balls on narrow pathways suspended in space. This game looks great, plays great, has a fantastic risk/reward element involving jumping off the track as a shortcut, and the multiplayer is excellent too. The standard price seems a tad high for what you’re getting, but this is a must-have when the game goes on sale. | |||
| Super Mega Zero | Platformer / Shmup | 1 | A- |
tl;drSuper Mega Zero is a challenging Platformer with some Shmup sections where players control a zero who can’t jump, but who can touch numbers to jump or dash that many times. This is one of many creative gameplay mechanics that this game is constantly adding into the mix, and combined with excellent level design, a fantastic soundtrack, and some really fun (if a bit overly-easy) Shmup levels all make for a game that’s a lot of fun, and should be a no-brainer for fans of challenging Platformers. | |||
In short, all four included games are worth playing, and Super Mega Zero is especially good. There’s also a lot of variety in this bundle, with each of the games being in a different genre. Also, for those worried about the bundle’s name, I don’t feel that it’s especially accurate – of the four games, only Super Mega Zero seemed particularly challenging, and even then I wouldn’t call it “super hard”.
So, four superb games leads us to the other question I always ask when looking at a bundle: is this a good value? Well, the answer to this question really depends on whether or not you want to wait for a sale. At their normal prices, all of these games sell separately for a combined $60, making this bundle’s $30 price a huge savings, slashing the standard price in half. However, if we look at sale prices, it’s a very different story, as each of these games have occasionally dropped to $2 each, making this bundle’s sale price of $15 nearly twice what it would cost to get the games separately… but only if you snag them all at their lowest sale price. Though it should be said that when these games go on sale, they aren’t always at that $2 price.
This puts me in a bit of a quandary when it comes to whether or not to recommend Super Hard Bundle. Again, the games are all good, but the value is harder to determine. If you’re the sort of person to wait for the best sale, then this is most certainly not the way you’ll want to get these games, as it will be better to wait until they each drop to $2 and then buy them separately. On the other hand, if you don’t want to be watching prices until this happens, this is probably going to be the best way to get these four games. Either way, I think the games in this bundle are well worth picking up, but whether or not you get this bundle will really depend on how shrewd and patient you are when seeking the best price.
tl;dr – Super Hard Bundle is a Compilation containing Dust & Neon, Super Glitch Dash, Super Impossible Road, and Super Mega Zero, all very different games, but all good ones, especially Super Mega Zero (the only game in the bunch I would consider especially hard). As for the value of this bundle, that will really depend on whether or not you’re looking at sale price – it’s a huge savings off of the standard price of these games, but not so much when you compare the sale prices. I definitely recommend these four games, but whether you get this bundle will really depend on how dedicated you are to your bargain hunting.
