Review:
Football Killer, released in 2020 on mobile devices and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2022, is a soccer-themed physics-based Puzzle game where players take the role of a soccer player trying to aim their kicks so that the soccer ball will ricochet into the goal(s) and/or maim everyone else on-screen (except the ref). It’s a silly premise that works out to playing like a combination of Angry Birds and Cut the Rope.
The presentation here is simple but appealing despite clearly looking like a mobile game, using simple, colorful, cartoony characters and simple-looking 2D levels. This is joined by the grunts of the people you’re slamming with the ball, explosions and other cartoony sound effects, and backed by an energetic soundtrack that’s oddly muffled for some reason.
When it comes to the gameplay, this is a pretty simple and straightforward but decent physics-based Puzzle game. There’s a good variety in the puzzles, with the game adding new mechanics as you play through the campaign.
On the other hand, I think the game is far too easy – puzzle solutions are usually pretty obvious, and in any case there’s not many ways to approach puzzles anyway so it usually won’t take you long to figure out even puzzles that may have initially perplexed you. Also, the $7 price tag seems a bit much for what’s on offer here.
Overall, I think Football Killer is an enjoyable Puzzle game, but also a pretty shallow one, and one that’s generally far too easy. Still, if that doesn’t bother you, you may want to give this a try… just be sure to get it on sale.
tl;dr – Football Killer is a loosely soccer-themed physics-based Puzzle game where players are trying to aim a ball to hit a goal and/or slam into other people on-screen. This is pretty enjoyable, but easy and simple, and the $7 price tag seems a bit high for what’s on offer. However, if you don’t mind easy and catch this on a sale, it may be worth a look.
