After reviewing countless products for Nintendo Switch, I am very pleased to announce that this is my first review of a product for Nintendo Switch 2! And… and… and if you’re reading this review when I first wrote and published it, you’re probably already seeing the problem with that.

As I write this, it is late March 2025, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is not actually out yet. In fact, we won’t be getting the full reveal with pricing, release date, and games until early April. What’s more, the only official footage we’ve gotten of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a CG trailer. I have yet to hold a Nintendo Switch 2 in my hands or see it in person, and certainly I haven’t had the opportunity to use the Nintendo Switch 2 with this case yet. And I believe there’s a strong possibility that neither has this case’s manufacturer, TZGZT, so what gives?

Well, early “leaks” of the Nintendo Switch 2 seem to have been pretty much confirmed by the official reveal teaser trailer, and those leaks included 3D printed replicas of the Nintendo Switch 2 (which, to be clear, I do not possess either). So accessory manufacturers likely have a good idea of the size and dimensions of the Nintendo Switch 2. Furthermore, TZGZT does have some established experience in case design, making cases for Apply iPhones, so it seems like these folks will know what they’re doing.

Having said that, not owning a Nintendo Switch 2 yet myself, I can only comment on what I have here before me, what I can tell from its design, and what its Amazon page claims it can do. I will do so, and expect me to give a more comprehensive review when I do get a Nintendo Switch 2.

TZGZT’s case looks similar in many ways to Nintendo Switch cases. It has a firm molded plastic exterior with a soft interior. The exterior has a carrying strap with what seems to be a fairly comfortable molded silicon handle, while the inside contains a mesh zippered storage compartment, a firm fabric flap with twelve slots for game cartridges, ending in a velcro strap to enclose the Nintendo Switch 2 and keep it firmly in place so it doesn’t jostle inside the case. I should also note that the back of the case has two bumps at the upper corners, likely to contain the extended ZL and ZR buttons of the expanded Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons. Along with the case are included two tempered glass screen protectors, a screen protector applicator, and a cleaning cloth.

All of this appears to be in line with what we expect from carrying cases, and just to be clear that this is not a case for the original Nintendo Switch, I’ve taken a photo of this case with the original Nintendo Switch inside – you can definitely see the size difference in the amount of space around the handheld.

Without using this case with an actual Nintendo Switch 2, I’d say it seems pretty satisfactory, though it does make a few claims on the Amazon page that I find to be dubious. For example:

Interior small mesh compartment is capable to hold switch 2 accessories like AC Charging Adapter, Switch Dock, Joy-Con Grip, Joy-Con Straps, Switch Pro controller, HDMI Cable, and 12-24 game cards slots, along with other switch 2 accessories.

Wow, that is a lot of accessories to claim will fit into this pouch. While I have little doubt that some of those will fit, I think it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be fitting a Switch Dock in there, unless this is intended to mean a third-party Nintendo Switch 2 dock, which I sure we’ll see plenty of before too long, including some designed for portability.

The other questionable claim here is “12-24 game card slots”. I suppose you could stuff 24 game cards in there by doubling up and putting two games in each slot, but that seems sloppy and anyways we don’t even know what Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridges look like yet… or really, if they will even sell game cartridges or make everything digital. I do think Nintendo will keep selling physical cartridges on Nintendo Switch 2, but we don’t actually know, do we? For that matter, we don’t know if Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridges are a different size or shape.

I’m not trying to be harsh here, just realistic – some of the claims this case makes are a stretch, and overall we don’t yet know enough to make a full evaluation. However, I do think this is a fascinating look at impressions that accessory manufacturers have of the Nintendo Switch 2, and perhaps also a statement on the rush to get products out the door as soon as possible… perhaps a bit too soon.

As I’ve said, I will revisit this review after I get my hands on a Nintendo Switch 2, but for now I consider this review incomplete.

tl;dr – The TZGZT Travel Carrying Case is the earliest accessory I’ve seen designed specifically for Nintendo Switch 2. Too early, in fact – we barely even know anything about the upcoming game system at this point. What’s more, this case’s sales page makes some difficult-to-believe claims. As such, this is definitely a review I’ll have to revisit after the Nintendo Switch 2 releases.
