Review:

Giant Rush, released on mobile devices in 2020 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2024, is a game that mixes three different types of gameplay, but ultimately I would describe it as an Arcade-style game.

Regardless of which game mode you’re playing in, all three use a similar presentation, with simple 3D visuals using 3D stick figure characters, backed by a repetitive electronic theme and joined by cookie-cutter sound effects that seem like they’re used in a gazillion mobile games these days.

Okay, so the presentation isn’t impressive, how about the gameplay?

Well, the main gameplay has your character running down a corridor, aiming to run into other stickmen the same color as you, making you grow in size. Grow enough by the time you reach the level’s end and you should be able to button-mash your way to victory in a fight with an opposing stickman character.

In addition to this, you have a Roguelike-style “boss rush” mode that has you button-mashing to fight one opposing stickman enemy after another, with each victory giving you the opportunity to upgrade one of your character’s stats (health, attack power, regeneration, etc.). However, you will inevitably be overpowered by increasingly more powerful opponents.

Finally, there’s a game mode that’s a bit like a cross between a Simulation-style game and an Idle game, where you’re using earned resources to construct buildings that gradually earn you even more resources.

Each and every one of these game modes is shallow and repetitive, and the boss rush mode is made even worse by your ability to progress being tied completely to your spending of in-game resources on permanent upgrades for your character, clearly showing how this game tried to squeeze money out of mobile players through microtransactions (which are apparently not present in the Nintendo Switch release of the game).

Given how shallow and repetitive Giant Rush is, I cannot recommend it. Even if you’re looking for a simple time-waster, you have much better options. Get something else instead.

tl;dr – Giant Rush is an Arcade-style game with three different styles of gameplay, but all three of them are shallow and repetitive. Don’t waste your time or money on this.
