Review:
Blazing Beaks + Badland: Game of the Year Edition Bundle, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023, is a Compilation containing the two named games, previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blazing Beaks | 2-Stick Shooter / Roguelike | 1-4 Co-Op / Competitive (Local) | C+ |
tl;drBlazing Beaks is a 2-Stick Shooter with Roguelike elements with a cartoony pixel art presentation featuring anthropomorphic birds with guns. Unfortunately, the game’s high difficulty doesn’t really fall in line with the cartoony presentation, and the nice unique features the game has only add to that difficulty. Action fans looking for a challenge might enjoy this, but I did not. | |||
| Badland: Game of the Year Edition | Arcade | 1-4 Co-Op / Competitive (Local) | C+ |
tl;drBadland is an Arcade-style game that has players flying a birdlike creature (or possibly a flock of them) through an obstacle course-style level to an exit. It’s not especially deep or original, and it can be a bit repetitive, but it’s still enjoyable enough to keep you entertained for a short while in between other bigger games. | |||
In short, I think both of these games have their charms, but each also has its own issues. Blazing Beaks is a bit tough for its art style, and Badland is a bit too repetitive. Neither is an outright terrible game, but they’re not truly great games, either.
Okay, but this is a bundle, so how does that affect the value? Well, at $21, this is… the exact same price as getting both games separately. The one bright spot here is that this bundle does sometimes go on sale for $2, half the individual games’ combined sale prices, so that’s something, I suppose.
Overall, Blazing Beaks + Badland: Game of the Year Edition Bundle is a combination of two games that are less than fantastic, in a bundle that’s less than fantastic. Not exactly a package I would recommend.
tl;dr – Blazing Beaks + Badland: Game of the Year Edition Bundle is a Compilation containing the two named games, both different types of games, and each suffering from its own problems. Plus, this bundle doesn’t really add value to entire you to buy both games together. Overall, while I don’t think this is a terrible pair of games, I do think you can do better on Nintendo Switch.
Grade: C+
