Review:

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched in 2025, one of the accessories that launched alongside it was the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera. To be clear, Nintendo has announced that most USB-C cameras should work with the Nintendo Switch 2, but this is Nintendo’s official product, a 1080p USB-C camera.

I feel like we can’t really talk about this camera without talking about how Nintendo Switch 2 uses the camera, because it’s frankly not very much. Players can use this camera when playing using Game Chat with friends, and… not much else. There is a section of Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour that uses the camera, and the upcoming Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will use camera input for some minigames, but otherwise it’s just going to sit there, collecting dust. Players cannot use this camera to take pictures or record video on their Nintendo Switch, though I suppose you could do so on a PC or other device, since this is just a USB-C camera.

This camera comes attached to a base that is roughly 5.5″ tall, and its vertical angle can be freely adjusted from about 10° down to about 45° upwards – not the biggest of ranges, but probably sufficient for most users. The included USB-C cable can detach from the camera for replacement or storage purposes.

This camera plugs into a USB-C port for both its signal and its power, and there is no included adapter to allow this to plug into a standard USB port. Since the only USB-C port on the Nintendo Switch 2 dock is the one for a necessary power adapter, this means that the only way to plug in this camera is to plug it into the Nintendo Switch 2 itself. Thankfully, even when docked, there is one USB-C port still available, on top of the Nintendo Switch 2.

When it comes to the picture quality, I honestly found this camera’s picture to be pretty terrible, both in the image quality and the framerates. I’m not entirely sure how much of this is because of the camera and how much is due to the Nintendo Switch 2, but whatever the reason, the image produced just looks flat-out bad.

The other problem here is the price – $55 is absolutely absurd for what’s on offer here, especially when there are other USB-C cameras easily available online that include a stand and cost under $20.

In the end, I absolutely do not recommend buying this camera. You’re unlikely to ever use it, and even if you plan on being in Game Chat a lot, or buying Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV when it releases, you’re much better off looking for a cheaper camera that will do the same thing at a much lower price.

tl;dr – The Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is a 1080p USB-C camera that players can use when playing with Game Chat, and not much else, with only a few games confirmed to make use of it in any other capacity. What’s more, the image quality and framerate is abysmal, and the $55 price tag is absolutely absurd. You probably don’t even need a camera for your Nintendo Switch 2, but if you want one, you can easily find less expensive USB-C cameras that offer much the same at a far better price.
