Review:
Super Perils of Baking is a Platformer released in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A remake of 2018’s Perils of Baking, this game follows the adventure of a heroic baker out to stop his brother, whose quest to become the better baker has led him to a cursed baker’s hat that has started turning baked treats into monsters.
The presentation in this game is a mixed bag. On the one hand, the character designs of the confectionary-based enemies are outright adorable, with some nice 2D pixel art visuals overall. On the other hand, this game’s primitive chiptune soundtrack is absolutely terrible, and you’ll want to mute the game soon after starting.
As for the gameplay itself, this is mostly fine, but nothing especially interesting. The level design isn’t especially engaging, the game mechanics are dull, and where the original game featured overly-precise movements that felt unnatural, here the jumping and movement physics are frustratingly laggy. It’s not so bad that this becomes a terrible game, but it is a pretty mediocre one.
Unless you are absolutely enchanted by this game’s baking theme, I recommend you skip Super Perils of Baking. It does nothing truly exceptional, and there are plenty of other better Platformers on the Nintendo Switch more deserving of your time and money.
tl;dr – Super Perils of Baking is a Platformer and remake of Perils of Baking, and while this remake adds adorable visuals to the cute concept of a game where your enemies are all based on confectionary treats, that is pretty much the only thing this game has going for it. Beyond that, this game is painfully mediocre, and there are countless other Platformers on Nintendo Switch you’re better off playing instead of this.
