Breakfast Bar Tycoon is an Arcade-style game released on Nintendo Switch in 2020. Like many so-called “restaurant tycoon” games, this isn’t actually about managing a business, but instead purely an Arcade-style experience where you take the role of a chef trying to prep and serve dishes customers order in a timely manner, with this game focused on different kinds of breakfast foods.

The presentation here is okay, featuring cartoony 2D visuals backed by forgettable upbeat music. Unfortunately, while some parts of the presentation are good, the food in this game doesn’t look especially enticing, and the game’s interface absolutely reeks of mobile game design.

As for the gameplay, this is pretty much what I think most players have come to expect from these “restaurant tycoon” games, which basically just have you following instructions and multitasking multiple things at once to try to complete orders in a timely manner. That said, Breakfast Bar Tycoon does the formula well enough, even if it lacks the variety and Simulation elements of a game like the Cook, Serve, Delicious! titles. It’s also lacking any sort of multiplayer. However, at only $5, this is somewhat forgivable.

In the end, Breakfast Bar Tycoon is a perfectly decent “restaurant tycoon” Arcade-style game. It doesn’t do anything especially well or unusual, but it should be satisfying enough for players looking for a simple food service game. Just don’t expect much in the way of options or variety – you won’t find them here.

tl;dr – Breakfast Bar Tycoon is an Arcade-style game that has players taking orders and prepping food before customers lose patience. This is a pretty typical “restaurant tycoon”-style game (without Simulation elements) that does this genre well enough, but doesn’t have much in the way of variety or options.

Grade: C+
