Cooking Tycoons 2 – 3 in 1, released on Nintendo Switch in 2020, is a Compilation of three Arcade-style games with a food service theme, previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and 2020.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakfast Bar Tycoon | Arcade | 1 | C+ |
tl;drBreakfast Bar Tycoon is an Arcade-style game that has players taking orders and prepping food before customers lose patience. This is a pretty typical “restaurant tycoon”-style game (without Simulation elements) that does this genre well enough, but doesn’t have much in the way of variety or options. | |||
| Food Truck Tycoon – Asian Cuisine | Arcade | 1 | C+ |
tl;drFood Truck Tycoon: Asian Cuisine is an Arcade-style game that has players taking orders and prepping food before customers lose patience. This is a pretty typical “restaurant tycoon”-style game (without Simulation elements) that does this genre well enough, but doesn’t have much in the way of variety or options. | |||
| Sushi Time! | Arcade | 1 | B- |
tl;drSushi Time! is an Arcade-style game that has players taking orders and prepping food before customers lose patience. This is mostly a pretty typical “restaurant tycoon”-style game (without Simulation elements) though it does have a nice sushi boat mechanic that adds a layer of strategy and planning to the gameplay. It doesn’t have much in the way of variety or options, but it’s still worth a look due to its enjoyable gameplay and low $5 price point. | |||
In short, I think all three of these games are enjoyable, but lack variety and multiplayer. Of the three, I think Sushi Time is the best of the bunch, thanks to the strategy its sushi boat mechanic enables, but it still has the same problems as the other two games.
One of the reasons I graded these games as high as I did was that they’re all fairly inexpensive – at $5, it’s easier to forgive lacking content and features. So that leads us to the question of whether this bundle continues that trend of value. Well, at $13, you’re only saving a few bucks off the price of getting all three games separately, which is okay but not great. Thankfully, the sale price is an even better deal – hitting the rock-bottom $2 price tag, making this basically “buy one, get two free”, a much better deal.
Having said, it bears mention that Cooking Arena – 10 in 1 Edition includes all of these games plus seven more, and sells for $7.50, and its sale price is $3.50, just a little more than this bundle’s best price. This kinda’ changes the perspective on Cooking Tycoons 2 – 3 in 1 Bundle – in a vacuum, this is a great deal, but it’s hard to recommend anyone get this bundle when Cooking Arena – 10 in 1 Edition offers far, far better value for money.
Ultimately, I think Cooking Tycoons 2 – 3 in 1 Bundle is a decent bundle that offers some good (but mostly not great) games, but it’s a bundle that’s been made obsolete by a better one. If you’re considering getting this Compilation, you probably want to get Cooking Arena – 10 in 1 Edition instead.
tl;dr – Cooking Tycoons 2 – 3 in 1 Bundle contains three Arcade-style games in the “restaurant tycoon” style (without Simulation elements). All three games are decent but mostly not great, but that’s made up for somewhat by this package being a pretty good value. Unfortunately for this package, Cooking Arena – 10 in 1 Edition offers a much better value, and if you want the games in this bundle you’re better off getting that bundle instead.
Grade: C+
