Review:

My Bakery Empire, elsewhere known as My Bakery Empire: Bake a Cake, is a Simulation-ish game released on mobile devices in 2017, ported to Nintendo Switch in 2023, then ported to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2024. This game has players going through the steps of baking various cakes and other sweet treats, while at least nominally building up multiple sweets-selling businesses.

Before moving on, I’ll note that this game reuses assets and gameplay from Real Cake Maker, so I’m copying much of the text of that review here, changing it where it’s different.

The presentation here is decent, using 3D characters and food items, with the food generally looking pretty good, and the characters reasonably detailed, though unfortunately a design flaw in these characters seems to have resulted in them often having heads that are detached from their necks. These visuals are backed by an upbeat and repetitive theme that gets annoying before too long.

The gameplay here, what little there is of it, just tasks players with following on-screen prompts, and there’s little you can do to deviate from that. You do at least get to choose your colors and decorations when making cakes, and you do get rated on how close you stuck to the original request you were given, but there’s no real penalty for straying from this.

This is pretty shallow and pointless, as there’s no real goals or challenge here. Heck, unlike Real Cake Maker, there’s not even a coloring book mode, and the game can’t really use the excuse that it was made for very young children to excuse the lack of challenge and repetitive gameplay. Even the framing device of trying to grow your business just seems like an excuse for the game to drip-feed the player content.

In the end, My Bakery Empire is a simple, shallow game with no challenge and little creativity afforded to the player. I do not recommend anyone waste time or money on this game.

tl;dr – My Bakery Empire is a game where players follow steps to bake cakes and other sweet treats for customers. Unfortunately, the gameplay is shallow, lacks challenge, and the “build your business” angle just seems like an excuse to drip-feed content to the player. Don’t bother with this undercooked baking disaster.
