Review:
Real Cake Maker, elsewhere known as Real Cake Maker 3D Bakery, is a Simulation-ish game released on mobile devices in 2016 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2024. As you might expect, this game has players going through the steps of baking various cakes and other sweet treats.
The presentation here is decent, using 3D characters and food items, with the food generally looking pretty good, and the characters reasonably detailed, though the extremely cutesy character designs where everything looks like babies may be off-putting to some players. These visuals are backed by an upbeat and repetitive theme that kinda’ highlights this being a game for youngsters.
The gameplay here, what little there is of it, just tasks players with following on-screen prompts, and there’s little you can do to deviate from that. You do at least get to choose your colors and decorations when making cakes, but your creative choices don’t really seem to have an impact you can track. When the treat you’re making is done, it gets rated (after you try to guess which other treats the game rates highly for some undisclosed reason), and then you move on to the next thing.
This is pretty shallow and pointless, as there’s no real goals or challenge here. The game does include a coloring book mode (though oddly, the controls for this mode are awkward and I think it would confuse youngsters), so it’s pretty clear that Real Cake Maker is a game intended for very young kids, but even for young kids, I would still hope that they’re playing a game that provides even a minimal challenge, or at least teaches them something.
Unfortunately, apart from a very vague idea of how cakes are made, this game doesn’t have any interest in teaching, and there’s zero challenge, just making this a repetitive exercise that a young player may find engaging enough due to the bright colors, but if that’s all you’re looking for there are countless other games that will also do the trick that are also… you know, games. Get one of those instead.
tl;dr – Real Cake Maker is a game where players follow steps to bake cakes for baby-like customers. Unfortunately, the gameplay is shallow, lacks challenge, and has little educational value for the youngsters that are this game’s target audience. it may be colorful enough to engage and distract them, but so are actual good games. Get one of those instead.
