Review:
Figment 1 + 2, released on Nintendo Switch in 2023 and ported to PlayStation 4 in 2024, is a Compilation containing the two named games, both family-friendly top-down games with different amounts of Action, Puzzle, and Graphic Adventure elements, released separately on Nintendo Switch in 2018 and 2023.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figment | Graphic Adventure / Top-Down Action | 1 | B+ |
tl;drFigment is a Graphic Adventure that puts you in the role of a resident of a mind under attack by inner demons. The game has some delightfully inventive visuals, memorable characters, and clever puzzles that are just the right amount of tricky. The game’s big flaw is its boring, tedious combat, which is really unnecessary, but also thankfully uncommon through the game. | |||
| Figment 2: Creed Valley | Puzzle / Top-Down Action | 1 | B+ |
tl;drFigment 2 is a family-friendly Puzzle game with Top-Down Action elements set in a metaphorical world inside a man’s mind, that improves on the original Figment in multiple ways, particularly in its puzzle design and music, though the combat is still uninspired. Still, despite this issue this is a great sequel that’s well worth playing for Puzzle fans looking for a trip back into this series’ creative world. | |||
In short, both of these games are quite good, with a good presentation and story, nice puzzles, and a creative world and characters, though the combat leaves something to be desired. The second game leans away from the Graphic Adventure elements of the first game to be more of a character-based Puzzle game, and this plus an excellent soundtrack makes this the better of the two in my mind, but they’re both good.
When it comes to value, this bundle’s standard $40 price tag makes it only $5 less expensive than buying the two games separately, which isn’t a huge savings but I suppose it’s better than nothing. Comparing the sales prices, the bundle’s sale price well under $3 is absolutely a savings compared to the individual games’ sale prices, and it’s not much more than buying one game on their own.
Overall, Figment 1 + 2 is a pair of very good games with decent standard pricing and excellent sale pricing. I think this bundle is a decent buy at its normal price, but if you can wait for it to go on sale for just a few bucks, it becomes a no-brainer, especially if you enjoy Puzzle games set in creative worlds, and don’t mind a bit of action thrown in as well.
tl;dr – Figment 1 + 2 is a Compilation containing the two named games, both family-friendly games that combine Action, Puzzle, and Graphic Adventure elements in an imaginative world set inside the mind. The games are both good, the price is okay, and the sale price is excellent. This is definitely worth getting if you’re a Puzzle game fan, especially if you catch it on sale.
Grade: B+
