Review:
Smashy Cannon is an Arcade-style game released in 2025 on Nintendo Switch. In this game, players aim a stationary cannon left and right and then fire to try to hit targets while avoiding signs with an X on them.
The presentation here is terrible, using extremely simple 3D visuals, and even then the game still suffers slowdown for some reason. This is backed by some extremely annoying repetitive music.
The gameplay here is absolutely brain-dead. Aim left, aim right, fire. Hit the targets, don’t hit the X signs. There’s no timer, and if you hit an X and fail you can just continue where you left off and try again. And if the simple gameplay wasn’t bad enough, the game’s levels seem to be randomized in a way where they frequently repeat, meaning that you don’t get a smooth challenge progression and you’re not even assured of getting something new when you complete a level.
Smashy Cannon is a lazy embarrassment of a game. It basically contains the bare minimum of what something needs to even be considered a game. I’ve played Mario Party minigames that were deeper than this. The only thing saving this from a failing grade is the fact that someone, somewhere might be entertained by this for a minute or two before growing bored with it. But don’t let that fool you – you absolutely should not waste a single dollar on this game.
tl;dr – Smashy Cannon is an Arcade-style game where players aim a cannon at targets while trying to miss signs with an X on them. This game is like a much worse version of a Mario Party minigame. It’s ugly, brain-dead simple, repetitive, lazy, and even if it amuses you for a minute or two, you’ll soon move on and have no desire to ever play this again. It’s not even worth its $1 price tag.
