Review:

Wheretheskyis is a 3D Platformer released in 2025 on PC and Nintendo Switch, where players create and climb platforms to reach a point in the sky where they can meet with a sky dragon deity.

Why meet with a sky dragon deity? Well… to be honest, the game’s use of English is so terrible that it’s not exactly clear. Your introduction to this world is “I’m Shuri. I am a sky people (Newman) who live in this world (Mysterica)”, and it just gets worse from there. A lot of names and places, but almost nothing in the way of character or motivation. Shuri wants to meet the sky dragon deity to learn about some other proper noun that means nothing to the player, and having completed the game I can confirm that even upon reaching this goal it will continue to mean nothing.

The rest of the presentation doesn’t fare much better. The game’s 3D visuals use a low-poly 3D model of a girl that looks unlike the rest of the visuals, which are boxy and even lower-poly, looking like something that would be right at home in a game like Minecraft. This is backed by new age-style music that makes for a somewhat dreamlike atmosphere but otherwise this game seems pretty unimpressive and slapped-together.

And speaking of slapped-together, the platforming in this game is horrible, with inconsistent jumping, terrible hit detection, a terrible camera, poor signposting that forces you to look around for the platform you’re meant to be looking for, which can cause you to instantly fail because platforms in this game can suddenly disappear for no reason…

It’s all pretty terrible, and that’s if you engage with the game in the way it’s apparently intended to be played. However, there’s another way to engage with the game – by holding down the jump button, you can just slowly rise up to the top, gradually getting from one target platform to the next, with no challenge or anything to do except wait. You can literally complete the entire game in a few minutes this way.

Wheretheskyis is broken. It’s broken if you try to play it the way it’s meant to be played, it’s broken if you play it the way it can be played. It’s ugly, inconsistent, and nonsensical though and through. Even at its low $2 price, this is not worth buying.

tl;dr – Wheretheskyis is a 3D Platformer where players create platforms to try to climb into the sky to reach a dragon deity. The gameplay is broken, the game’s story is nonsensical, and I cannot think of any good reason that anyone should waste even $2 on this.
