Review:

20XX / 30XX, released in 2025 on Nintendo Switch, is a physical-only Compilation of the two named games, both games that combine Mega Man-style Action-Platformer gameplay with Roguelike mechanics.

I have previously separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersScore
20XXAction-Platformer / Roguelike1-2 Co-Op (Local, Online)B+
tl;dr20XX is an Action-Platformer with strong Roguelike elements. It is obviously very strongly inspired by the Mega Man series and especially Mega Man X, although the Roguelike elements definitely make this distinct and different enough to stand on its own, albeit not without losing a few of the positive qualities of the Mega Man games while doing it.
30XXAction-Platformer / Roguelike1-2 Co-Op (Local, Local Wireless, Online)B+
tl;dr30XX is an Action-Platformer that’s a sequel to 20XX, and like that game, it gives players a Roguelike-style take on the classic Mega Man X series… but this time around, you can also opt to play the game much in the same way as the actual Mega Man games. Either way, this is an exceptionally well-crafted game that so perfectly imitates Mega Man-style gameplay that it’s better than everything that series has released in the past two decades. It’s just a shame the PC version’s level builder didn’t make it into the Nintendo Switch version of the game, but even without it this is an outstanding Action-Platformer.

These are both excellent games, and I think 30XX builds on its predecessor enough to be a good sequel without clearly outclassing it. In short, if you enjoy Action-Platformers, you’re in for a treat with this one-two punch.

However, I’m not done. Before diving into my usual price comparisons, I have to fully go into the contents of this package. First, the two games are on a single cartridge here, and in addition to this the game comes with two download codes – one for 30XX’s paid DLC, Dally’s Feline Fury, and the other for a digital copy of both games’ soundtracks. There’s also an actual physical instruction book, some stickers, and a poster. In short, without going so far as to include something that would force them to bloat the package into something bigger and more expensive, they’ve included quite a bit here.

Okay, so now let’s talk about price. Individually, it will cost you $38 to get the games on their own, or $43 if we count the included 30XX DLC. Compared to this bundle’s standard price of $35, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal. However, if we expand our view to look at sale prices, things become a bit muddier, with the digital content collectively costing $19 if you get it on sale, while this physical Compilation has yet to go on sale as of this writing. That said, this bundle hasn’t been out for very long, so that may change, but it’s a limited release of two very good games, so I expect the price to go up, not down.

As such, the question you have to ask when it comes to whether or not to get this bundle is how important it is to you to get a physical copy of your games. If it’s worth spending a bit more, then 20XX / 30XX is still a decent price for some excellent games well worth getting. However, if you’re not picky about format and just want to save money, I recommend you just get the digital versions of these games when they go on sale. But either way, know that these two games are absolutely worth playing.

tl;dr – 20XX / 30XX is a physical-only Compilation of the two named games plus 30XX’s DLC. Both games are excellent and worth playing, and this is a well-priced package, but if a physical release isn’t important to you, you’ll save more money just by buying the individual games when they go on sale, so do that instead.

Grade: B+
