Review:
Formula Legends is a Simulation-style Racing game released in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This game has players driving Formula 1-style vehicles inspired by multiple time periods racing on circuits inspired by historical race courses.
The presentation here leaves something to be desired, with somewhat simple 3D visuals that seem to be blurry or low-resolution and don’t convey a very good sense of speed. These visuals are joined by an energetic soundtrack that fits the gameplay well, but even so, this presentation doesn’t instill enthusiasm in the game.
Sadly, the same holds true for the gameplay, which seems to mostly aim for a Simulation-style experience with damage to tires and the car’s body, a gas meter, strict enforcement of rules that penalize cutting even the smallest of corners, and brakes that lock up if they’re used too suddenly. All of these things can be disabled if you want something less restrictive, but even doing so still results in a painfully difficult Racing experience that doesn’t seem especially realistic even in its core racing mechanics.
This is in part because this game does include multiple types of boosts that are far from anything realistic, but it’s mostly because the actual steering seems somewhat unresponsive and sluggish, making for gameplay that seems to give players poor control over their vehicles… and then demand absolute precision control that is unforgiving.
The resulting gameplay simply wasn’t fun. There’s no sense of speed, no sense of fine-tuned control, only gameplay that is demanding to the point of punishing. There are multiple Racing games on Nintendo Switch, even Simulation-style Racing games, that both look better and feel better to play. I recommend you find one of those instead – Formula Legends simply doesn’t offer anything that can compete with that.
tl;dr – Formula Legends is a Simulation-style Racing game that optionally simulates multiple ways your vehicle can act up, but the core racing gameplay doesn’t feel responsive enough for how demanding this game is, and the graphics are pretty poor for a game that’s attempting to be realistic. But more than this, this game simply isn’t very fun to play, with poor controls and a poor sense of speed. Get your racing thrills elsewhere, because this is just going to disappoint.
